About Us
In 1997 Housing Options Scotland was established to provide a unique public access service to all disabled people throughout Scotland.
Today we provide information and advice to disabled people, veterans and older people. We do not provide housing.
Our main aim is to ensure that disabled people, veterans and older people can access the right home for them. We advise on social renting, private renting, and home ownership.
Our dedicated team of volunteers (the HOSmates) are ex clients who have wanted to give something back to the organisation. These volunteers help us to learn about the housing problems disabled people, veterans and older people face. We also use the knowledge we gain by helping our clients to effect changes in policies and practice.
Housing Options Scotland has three main areas of activity:
We assist disabled people, veterans and older people by advising them on, and supporting them through, the complex design, financial and legal processes involved in buying or renting a property
We provide information, advice and training on housing and disability issues to the public, private and voluntary sectors to improve the service our clients get
We raise awareness of the problems our clients face in relation to their housing, and highlight the solutions and opportunities that exist
Housing Options Scotland works with all 32 local authorities. Our service is open to anyone who is disabled, has a disabled family member, is a veteran or an older person.
